Laminate AC Ratings
Laminate flooring is both practical and beautiful. Colour, texture and overall appearance are the main attributes most people look for when choosing new laminate flooring for their home. However, knowing the AC Rating of your selection will give you the added confidence that you are making the right choice for your home, business and your budget.
What is an AC Rating?
The Abrasion Class is more commonly referred to in the laminate flooring marketplace as the AC Rating. AC rating is a standardised system used to determine the laminate’s strength and durability in a series of tests. Laminate flooring is rated from AC1 to AC5.
The AC Rating is a good measure as to how well a laminate flooring product will perform in your residential or commercial site, so it’s a good idea when you’re searching for laminate floor options to know what each AC Rating is.
How is a Laminate Floor Rated?
Laminate flooring is given an AC Rating based on their performance under a number of key stress points such as resistance to staining, impact, heat, moisture, scuffs and scratches. The laminate’s performance is established based on the results of the tests. If a laminate floor should fail any of these durability tests, it is automatically labelled as unrated.
Individual AC Ratings
There are a variety of ways in which laminate flooring are listed. Frequently, a laminate manufacturer will simply label it as AC1, AC2, AC3, AC4 or AC5.
